the days are great.... the nights are long

Every year we venture out into the great wide open to "get away from it all" by the beginning of day two we are usually utterly ready to get back to it all and as quickly as possible. Camping was wonderful, exhausting, refreshing and infuriating all into one. The days were wonderful. By day one we'd had breakfast, built a bonfire, been on a hike, and gone around the campsite with Layna's bike all before 9 AM.

While my sleep deprived eyes were gazing into the fire I remember that between 1 and 2 Layna also had a rough time camping. It's easy how we forget and funny how it all comes rushing back as soon as you are in that same space.

Kimi and I looked at each other with both kids screaming on night 2  and we didn't even have to say it because the question was so evident. WHY DO WE DO THIS???? Skipping this year might have been wise but in spite of it all we had a wonderful time.

I have never seen such magnitude, such splendor and such open spaces as I have in the states and particularly on the west coast. What a glorious and beautiful and awesome creation

"When through the woods and forest glades I wander
and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees
when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
and here the brooke and feel the gentle breeze

Then sings my soul my saviour God, to Thee,
How great thou art"

That is why I love camping
